Leaders need to remember the storms are inevitable, that’s what leaders signed up for. But they’re also in the people business. Which means even through these storms, you need to work on how you lead your people.
Start first by being “there you are” leader versus a “here I am” leader. When you enter the room, see what others need and what connections could be made rather than quickly dealing with what you need in the moment. People will remember you far more for how you made them feel rather than anything you said or did.
Create hope for your people and be consistent with your mission and vision. Mindset work is essential. Work to develop a positive, growth oriented, mindset, each and every day so you can show up as the best version of yourself every day for your people.
Leadership is challenging and can be lonely, but it can also be very rewarding when done well. At the end of the day, your legacy, how people remember their time with you, won’t be marked by the storms you were able to help prevent, but for how you led your people to the ones you could not.
Face the storms, choose hope, and lead your people with love and support.
